Ashleigh volunteers at the Youth Group for teenagers supported by Shooting Star Chase. She is also an Ambassador for the charity, a member of the Friends of Shooting Star Chase Croydon group and sits on our Volunteer Forum.

“Why do I volunteer my time? I am desperately trying to think of an answer that won’t sound horribly clichéd – but so far all I’ve come up with is, why wouldn’t I volunteer my time?”

“It sounds like a lot, but that really just sums up what happens when you meet the teenagers at Shooting Star Chase – you can’t help but get more involved. When I was looking for a new job recently, I would only look at places that would allow me to continue attending Youth Group and fulfilling my other commitments to the charity.

“When I am planning my week, I plan my friends around Youth Group times – not the other way around. At Youth Group I get to be a friend, a confidante, a big sister, a dance partner, an assistant music producer, a photographer and so much more.

“So when I think about what’s important to me, it’s staring me right in the face, and with all the clichés and obvious answers aside…I volunteer my time because in my heart, it’s impossible for me not to.”
