“I realise that I am lucky to have two healthy children and volunteering gives me the opportunity to help those less fortunate than me.”
Anne has been volunteering for five years, firstly at the CHASE fundraising office at Loseley Park and now at our head office, Bridge House.
“In 2003 I was widowed but continued to work part-time as a primary school teacher in the school attended by my own children. When my youngest child left to move on to secondary school I made the decision to leave too but realised that I needed something else to fill my time.
“I heard about CHASE, as it then was, from an employee and I realised that it was just what I needed to fill my time and feel that I was doing something useful.
“I joined the Community Fundraising team and volunteered once a week doing anything they asked me to do. I really enjoyed it. I felt that I was helping and although I wasn’t working directly with the children, I knew that my small contribution helped them indirectly.
“I attended events and became an Ambassador talking at school assemblies. I realise that I am lucky to have two healthy children and volunteering gives me the opportunity to help those less fortunate than me.”
