It was celebrations all round at a special golf day held in aid of Shooting Star Chase on 13 June, when supporter Roger Fidler from East Horsley, managed to hit a hole in one to win a brand new Hyundai car!

The event organised by Stephen Sutton from Guildford’s bespoke jewellers Cry for the Moon was held at Guildford Golf Club, who have been supporters of the children’s hospice charity for many years.

The golfers were invited to enjoy some breakfast whilst registering before competing in several competitions including a putting and nearest the bunker challenge before the actual golf rounds began!

Guildford Hyundai, proud supporters of Shooting Star Chase had put up one of their brand new cars as a prize if someone managed to hit a hole in one at the 13th hole. That someone was Roger, who against all the odds stepped forward to take the amazing shot!

Roger who is a member of Effingham Golf Club said, “It felt like a great shot, over 200 yards, and I knew I was going to be close. It wasn’t until we walked up to the green, with no sign of a ball, that I realised it was in the hole. I’ve been playing golf for over 25 years and have never come close. It’s an amazing feeling and I’m absolutely delighted.”

Following the spectacular round the golfers returned to the 19th hole for some dinner, games and celebratory drinks!

Organiser Stephen Sutton said of the event, “It was such a wonderful day and even more special with Roger’s amazing hole in one! We’d like to thank all the participants involved, those companies who donated the prizes and Guildford Golf Club for hosting the event!”

The whole event raised a magnificent £3000 and counting which will go on to help provide the vital care and support the families who use Shooting Star Chase desperately need.
