With two routes to choose from in a picturesque setting, anyone can take part – whether you’re an experienced walker or enjoy a stroll with your family and friends.

Now in its fifth year, the Sunrise Walk has so far attracted over 1,000 walkers who have raised an impressive £175,000. By taking part in the Sunrise Walk 2017 you can help us reach our target of £60,000 so we can continue providing a lifeline for parents, siblings and other family members who are coping with the devastating loss of a child.
Our main 20km route will remain the same as previous years, and we now have a 10km route which is ideal for families with young children. The routes will take you past some stunning sights including Richmond Park, Richmond Hill, The Thames, Ham Common, Bushy Park and Hampton Court Palace – what a way to start a Sunday morning!
If you’re walking in memory and would like to hang a lantern on our Celebration Tree to light the start line, you can request this upon registration.
Friends and family are welcome to come and join you at the finish line where you will receive your medal at our celebration picnic. All medal holders are welcomed by Ham House to explore the gardens free of charge and use the facilities, including the café and shop.

All under 16s MUST be accompanied by a responsible adult. Minimum age is 8 years old. Child fee is for under 18s.

We understand you might have lots of questions about the Sunrise Walk – hopefully the answers below will help but, if not, please get in touch with us.
How long will the walk take?
Most people will walk at a rate of 3mph. Depending on the route you pick, we anticipate the walk may take between 2 – 5 hours.
What happens if I can’t finish the walk?
If you feel that you are unable to continue with the walk you MUST either inform one of the event marshals along the route giving your name and walker number or call the emergency event number that will be provided in your joining instructions. It is your responsibility to ensure you can be collected by car from an appropriate point along the route.
Will there be anywhere to leave any valuables?
Unfortunately there will be no facilities at Riverside Pitches (Ham House) to leave possessions. We recommend you only bring essential items with you.
Will there be toilets en route?
Portaloos will be available at the start and finish line as well as on route. Details of this will be in the final joining instructions document.
Do I need to bring anything for my own safety?
We do recommend that you bring a fully charged mobile phone and extra water. The route will be marshalled and fully signed posted but we recommend you also bring along your walking instructions that will be sent to you in your final joining pack.
What should I wear?
We recommend that you wear comfortable (worn in) walking shoes/boots and your Sunrise Walk t-shirt which will be sent to you in the post. The venue is outside so there will be no shelter so you are advised to bring some wet weather gear too or even a sun hat! The month of June can be wet but it can also be very hot. Layers are also good as you can put on and take off as needed.
I have a disability; can I still take part?
The majority of the route will be on pavements, some parts of the route will be along the towpath and paths within Richmond Park which may be uneven, muddy and not suitable for some wheelchairs or pushchairs. If you have any questions about the route please do call us.
How old do I need to be to take part?
All under 16s MUST be accompanied by a responsible adult for the duration of the walk. Minimum age is 8 years old.
Can we walk as a group?
Yes, groups are very welcome however we do recommend you pre-register to save time on the day. You don’t need to tell us that you are walking as a group if you don’t want to. It will be easy to find each other and walk together as a group on the day.
Can I bring my family and friends to support me?
Of course! Supporters are welcome at the beginning and/or end of the walks; it’s great to have some familiar faces to give you that vital bit of encouragement and support just when you need it most. They may also want to support you at a particular point along the route. Please advise them to look at the route maps.
Can I bring pets?
We are pleased to advise that we can accommodate dogs on the walk. Please let us know when registering if you intend to bring a dog on the day. Your pet is your responsibility for the entire walk, must be kept on a lead at all times and any mess cleared away.
Do I have to raise a certain amount of money?
We suggest you set yourself a fundraising target of £100. Last year our walkers exceeded the fundraising target and raised on average £240 per person!
Can I hand in my sponsor money on the day?
Yes, we will be able to accept sponsorship money on the morning. Please hand this to the staff on the registration desks and place any cash or cheques into a sealed envelope with your name and contact details on the front. Please note on this occasion receipts will not be issued.
I don’t want to walk, but would like to help, how can I get involved?
We rely on volunteers to help make our events such a success. You can get involved on the morning by helping with registration, refreshments, T-shirts, car park marshalling and marshalling along the route. To register your details please email firstname.lastname@example.org
