Shooting Star Chase and Reed Exhibitions
Reed Exhibitions are long term supporters of Shooting Star Chase and have been raising money and taking part in activities and challenges since 2008 following a member of staff and his family being referred to Christopher’s, our Guildford hospice, for support. Every year staff donate toiletries collected from their travels to use in our hospices at therapy and pamper days, as well as organising the annual Christmas Cracker Fundraiser, a major Christmas event which raises up to £7,000.
As well as office fundraising, staff are firm supporters of Shooting Star Chase, donating surplus items from their exhibitions that can be sold to raise vital funds to support babies, children and young people with life-limiting conditions, and their families.
Reed Wheelers, a team of cyclists from Reed Exhibitions, embarked on the 315-mile Tour of Ireland to raise vital funds for Shooting Star Chase. Lead by Darren Wright, sales manager at IBTM events, part of the RTE portfolio, the team spent three days navigating the West Coast of Ireland along the Wild Atlantic Way.
The Reed Wheelers team is comprised of 13 of the company’s current and previous employees. The team has cycled routes including the Scottish Highlands, Land’s End to Richmond, and London to Paris.
Before the team set-off on their epic challenge, Wright said “We’re looking forward to the challenge of cycling the longest coastal touring route in the world, and seeing some of the beautiful places in Ireland along the way, including Cork, Kerry, Shannon and then Galway”.
During the cycle challenge, the team spent between eight and nine hours cycling each day before resting in accommodation provided by Cork Convention Bureau, Shannon Region Conference & Sports Bureau and Galway Convention Bureau.
Cycling the route were Darren Wright (Captain), Shane Hannam, David Todd, Matt Need, Clinton Erasmus, Neesam Mohoboob, Alex Bowden, Catherine Trevor, Charlie Cracknell, Shane Lewis, Craig Moyes and Neil Simpson.
Since Reed Exhibitions started to support Shooting Star Chase, they have raised over £41,000.
“Here at Reed Exhibitions we are firm champions for Shooting Star Chase and their fantastic support to families in need. We heard first-hand from our colleague Craig how Shooting Star Chase’s dedication and care got them through the darkest times, and they truly believe they couldn’t have coped without Shooting Star Chase.” Richard Mortimore, CEO Reed Exhibitions
